Poppies

Love this picture by George Crawford, taken on the road between West Kilbride and Ardrossan last week.

Bright splash of colour in what has been a fairly grey and overcast summer so far on the west Coast! (It was glorious today though).

Swaying gently in the breeze

poppies galore blooming with ease

raising their heads up to the sky

smiling widely certainly not shy

Fragile petals warm in the sun

flames of scarlet having fun

black eyes winking in hazy sunlight

dancing merrily for your delight

So when you pass this field of fire

take the time to stop and admire

silken petals with a waxy sheen

against a background of olive green.

June in Scotland (continued…)

The stormy theme continues into the weekend, and it looks a bit like this:

  In Saltcoats.

And like this in Ardrossan. (Pictures from Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald on Facebook.)

Still moving hopefully onwards in pursuit of summer 😎

Thus Nature sorrows, and forgets her sorrow ;

And Reason soberly approves her way :

Why should we shut oor een against to-morrow

Because our sky was clouded yesterday ?

Haar

I love this photo of Ailsa Craig – it is called “haar” and was taken by Brian Johnston. The effect is so calm, so tranquil. Just looking at it makes me relax.

Only those who have lived on the East Coast of Scotland really appreciate haar. How it rolls in from the sea, turning a warm sunny day cold and colourless in an instant.

Although this photo is anything but colourless – maybe it’s the lighter touch of West Coast haar and sunshine 😄
